Martha Raymond is a young, up-and-coming ballet dancer, teacher, and emerging artist from rural Nova Scotia, now based in Halifax. She discovered ballet at a young age and has spent the past five years training in The Dance Institute’s pre-professional program under Diana Rutherford, Jane Wooding, and Hannah Mae Cruddas, building a strong classical foundation through the Cecchetti method.

Martha is part of The Dance Institute’s Emerging Artist Program and has performed with Rooted Dance Projects, appeared in The Last Jazz Bliss, and competed at the Youth America Grand Prix in Toronto and New York. Her cherished role as the Sugar Plum Fairy has taken her from the stage to her local library and the IWK Children’s Hospital.

Alongside her dance training and performances, Martha studies Physiology at Saint Mary’s University on scholarship. She also teaches at Halifax Dance, encouraging her students to build confidence, develop strong technique, and discover a genuine love of dance, while also working as a member of the front desk staff. As a young dancer still early in her career, Martha looks forward to continuing to grow as both a performer and educator and to giving back to her community. For Martha, dance has always been more than movement; it is a language of connection, resilience, and joy that she feels privileged to share with every dancer and audience member she meets.
