COMPANIES IN RESIDENCE

  • ABOUT THE PROGRAM

In keeping with Halifax Dance's mission and dedication to the development of dance and movement arts, support is offered to artists and companies to provide cost-effective studio space for creation and rehearsal.

Each year, Halifax Dance selects a limited number of participants to the Companies in Residence program. Applicants must fit the following eligibility requirements:

*must be a professional working company

*must not collect fees from company members (with the exception of company classes open to the professional community)

  • BENEFITS

Our Companies in Residence will have access to our state of the art studios equipped with mirrors, dimmable lights and sound paneling in 2 of the 5.

Our space is fully accessible with ramped entry ways for our diverse community.

Members will be able to easily book studio space through our online booking system and will have key-access to enter our studio beyond our business hours.

  • BIPOC ARTIST RESIDENCY

Halifax Dance is dedicated to supporting BIPOC artists and marginalized groups who have previously been excluded from spaces and opportunities in the dance world. It is our goal to provide a safe and inclusive space where diverse artists can thrive, and to help establish a vibrant dance community that reflects true human expression.

The Residency Program for BIPOC artists and companies is designed to allot 200 hours to select artists/companies who fit within the criteria of the Companies in Residence Program. These hours may be divided amongst more than one artist/company, and applicants are encouraged to apply for the hours they need in order for the program to support as many individuals as possible. Selected recipients will receive studio rental hours to be used for creation, production, and rehearsal at no charge.
